2014 Gothenburg

13th NORDCODE Seminar & Workshop, Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, September 10th-12th 2014

Action and reaction
– Behaviour and experience triggered by artefacts

Things affect us. They move us, sometimes in a literal way, sometimes figuratively. Things embody meanings and practices, provoke, present opportunities for actions and in some cases also trigger reactions. Things often carry status functions or serve as signifiers of some associated meaning beyond themselves. Signs permeate every day life shaping interactions, experiences and behaviour.

We now invite working papers for the 13th Nordcode seminar & workshop. The focus for the seminar is acting and reacting to and through symbolic aspects.

We hereby invite working papers relating to the seminar theme. Suggested topics include but are not limited to:

  • –  User experience in relation to current and emerging products and

services; Contributing positively to user experience through eliciting,

or helping people cope with, experiences.

  • –  Triggering action through products and services; e.g. changing

    behaviour towards more sustainable practices.

  • –  Management of meaning: Strategic brand and product identity.

We also welcome other contributions on the more general Nordcode theme of communicative aspects of artefacts, aesthetic qualities of physical products and objects, and design processes related to the above.

Working papers should be no more than 2500 words and may present work in progress, initial ideas, or finished research in a creative and innovative style to contribute to the informal Nordcode spirit. Submissions should be sent to hiort@chalmers.se no later than 2013- 04-25

The seminar is free of charge. Submitted papers will be reviewed and accepted papers published on the seminar webpage.
